Signs Your Outboard Needs Attention

Outboards usually tell you something is wrong before they quit. The trick is paying attention to it.

Call Us If You Notice

Weak or missing telltale stream
Overheat alarm or warning light
Hard starting after the boat sits
Bogging or stumbling when you throttle up
New vibration after hitting something
Milky or metallic gear oil

Most of these start out as small, cheap fixes. A worn impeller costs a lot less than a cooked powerhead, and a leaking seal costs a lot less than a new gear case. If something feels off, have it checked before your next trip.

Why Orlando Outboards Wear Out Faster

Around Orlando you can boat every month of the year. That is great for weekends on the Butler Chain or the Conway Chain, but it also means your motor never really gets a break.

Ethanol fuel sitting in the tank between trips breaks down and gums up the fuel system. Lake grass and weeds get sucked into water intakes and push engines toward overheating. And summer heat makes every one of those problems worse. Regular service is what keeps a weekend from turning into a tow back to the ramp.

How We Keep Them Running

  • Fuel system service and ethanol treatment
  • Cooling system flush and impeller replacement
  • Anodes and corrosion protection
  • Spark plugs, filters and fresh gear oil
  • Full inspection with photos after every visit

Most Orlando boats only need a little attention each season to stay reliable. We will tell you exactly what yours needs and what can wait.

Common Questions

Outboard Repair FAQs

The questions Orlando boat owners ask us most about outboard repair. Still not sure? Just give us a call.

(352) 408-0929
How much does outboard motor repair cost in Orlando?
It depends on the motor and what is actually wrong. A clogged fuel filter and a damaged gear case are very different jobs. We start by finding the cause, then give you a written quote before any work begins. If a repair does not make sense for the age of your motor, we will tell you that too.
Why won't my outboard start?
The most common causes are a weak or dead battery, a loose connection, old fuel, a clogged fuel filter, or the safety lanyard not being clipped in. If you have checked the easy stuff and it still will not fire, we can come out and track it down.
Why is my outboard overheating?
On Central Florida lakes it is often weeds or debris blocking the water intake. A worn water pump impeller or a stuck thermostat are the next most common causes. Shut the motor off as soon as you notice it, because running hot can quickly cause serious damage.
Do you come to me or do I bring the boat in?
For most outboard repairs we come to you anywhere in the Orlando area, whether the boat is in your driveway, at your dock, or in storage. Bigger jobs like a full powerhead rebuild may need to come to our shop, and we will let you know up front.
How often should my outboard be serviced?
Most manufacturers recommend service every 100 hours or once a year, whichever comes first. Boats that sit for long stretches or run hard all summer may need attention sooner. We follow your manufacturer schedule and keep a record for your warranty.
What outboard brands do you work on?
We service Yamaha, Mercury, Honda, Suzuki and Tohatsu outboards, from small portable motors up to large multi engine setups.
