The Clermont Chain and Johns Lake
The Clermont Chain is a string of about a dozen lakes tied together by the Palatlakaha River. Lake Louisa is the biggest at roughly 3,600 acres, followed by Lake Minnehaha and Lake Minneola, and you can run between them without ever pulling the boat out. The water is dark from the cypress trees that line the shore, so it is hard to see what is under you.
Johns Lake covers about 2,580 acres and is split into east and west pools joined by a channel. It has a lot of grass, lily pads and submerged timber, which is great for bass fishing and hard on props and lower units. When the water drops, that channel gets tricky.
Weeds pulled into water intakes are one of the most common reasons we see engines overheat out here, and stump and bottom strikes are a close second. We know these lakes, so we know where to look first.
